Sarah Richey founded Land Conservation Consulting in 2023 after years of working in land conservation and planning throughout the West.
Originally from Utah, Sarah came to Montana to complete both her undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Montana. Before working in conservation, she developed and led environmental education programs for adults across the region—an experience that helped shape her appreciation for landscapes, communities, and the people connected to them.
Her professional background includes work with Missoula County on natural resource issues, land-use planning, and open-space conservation programs, followed by a decade with Five Valleys Land Trust as a Conservation Project Manager. There, she worked on conservation easements and land transactions throughout Western Montana while supporting community-led conservation efforts in rural parts of the region.
Sarah’s work is grounded in collaboration, long-term stewardship, and a deep respect for the complexities of conservation work in the West. She works with land trusts and agencies throughout Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Washington. Her work follows Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices and is grounded in three core principles: integrity, efficiency, and excellence.
